2025 applications will open in June next year. Follow @washingtonalpineclub on instagram for updates

The Washington Alpine Club's Intermediate Climbing Class teaches the lead rock climbing skills needed to become competent leaders in technical alpine climbs. The course covers self rescue, trad gear placement, anchor building, multi-pitch skills and crack climbing technique. It is open to anyone who has lead climbing experience on bolted sport climbs and is keen to learn more. If you have done our Basic Class and have some lead climbing experience then you have a good foundation. The class format follows that of the Basic Climbing Class with Tuesday night lectures followed by weekend field trips. The course typically accepts 8 students to maintain a 1:1 instructor-student ratio, and comply to permit limitations where we teach and camp. See our curriculum and schedule for more info.

If you are an experienced climber, and would like to teach rock leading or party rescue with us, please contact the class chairs to discuss the opportunities available.  We are an all-volunteer program and greatly appreciate the time and energy that our more experienced members contribute to make this program a success.  It is also lots of fun.
